Southwestern Illinois College began as Belleville Junior College in 1946, is one of the largest community colleges in the state of Illinois. The college operates campuses in Belleville, Granite City and Red Bud, and more than 25 off-campus sites located throughout Illinois. It offers educational programs through the Center for Training Innovations, Programs and Services for Older Persons, and Career Activities and Employment Center. The college provides more than 60 associate degree programs in arts and fine arts, science and applied science. It also provides more than 90 certificate programs in chemical technology, construction carpentry, medical billing and coding, microcomputer technology, aviation pilot training, networking, process operations technology, and Web design and coding.
