Rockford Environmental Science Academy is a professional development school managed by Rockford Public Schools. Founded in 1999, the academy is spread across an area of more than 50 acres. Its facilities feature a library, swimming pool, research laboratory, greenhouse, cafeteria and classrooms. Rockford Environmental Science Academy incorporates an environmental science theme into the standard district core curriculum. It has an enrollment of over 1,300 students in grades six through eight and is located in Rockford, Ill. The academy delivers instruction in science, math, social studies, English and language arts. It also offers special classes in environmental science, physical education and health. Rockford Environmental Science Academy additionally provides various sports programs, such as football, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, cross country, swimming, volleyball and wrestling.
