The Greenwood Fire Department is a combination department consisting of approximately 30 full-time employees and 80 paid on-call/paid station standby volunteers. It offers fire, explosion, rescue, emergency medical services and hazardous material response for the jurisdiction and assists regularly with five primary mutual aid fire departments. The department protects a 25-square-mile response area that has a permanent resident population of approximately 43,500. The area has a daily visitor population of 30,000 to 50,000 people due to the high retail occupancy concentration of the city. The largest enclosed shopping mall in Indiana is located in the city of Greenwood, Ind. Greenwood Fire Department borders the southern boundary of Indianapolis.
