Steak 'n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.

Steak 'n Shake in general is a much lower quality experience, no waitstaff, self serve, plastic dishes, super trimmed down menu with no salad or vegetables available. That's a franchise problem....
