Brittney Mikkelsen, PT

Sam Curtis, PT joined The Iowa Clinic Physical Therapy department in 2025 with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. He chose The Iowa Clinic because he’s always considered it the gold standard for healthcare in the Des Moines metro, and after personally experiencing its exceptional service and provider expertise, joining the team felt like a natural fit. Sam’s interest in physical therapy began in high school after experiencing minor injuries through sports. He was fascinated by how the body heals through movement and decided to turn that curiosity into a career. For Sam, the most rewarding part of his job is helping people return to their daily lives without pain.

Kasey Dougherty, PT joined The Iowa Clinic in 2022 after completing her education at The University of Iowa. She tore her rotator cuff during her collegiate volleyball career and is passionate about working with patients with similar shoulder injuries. Physical Therapy can serve as a catalyst towards a healthier lifestyle both physically and mentally. Kasey enjoys seeing her patients improve their mobility and get back to the activities they love. The “lightbulb moment,” when patients are able to move in a way they once were not able to, is her favorite part about being a physical therapist.

Collin Besch, PT joined The Iowa Clinic Physical Therapy department to be part of a talented, caring, and hardworking group of individuals with the same patient-centered focused care. Thanks to his passion for exercise and health, Collin pursued physical therapy to help others achieve a happy and healthy lifestyle. Collin finds that the most rewarding part of his practice is helping his patients find the troubles of their pain and getting them back to living a healthier, happier, and more functional life. Outside of work, Collin enjoys the outdoors, including skydiving twice and participating in RAGBRAI each year. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, friends, and family, working out, biking, running, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. If he wasn’t a physical therapist, he might have chosen to pursue optometry.
