TThe Shawnee Mission West High School offers classes from grades nine through 12. Its parent resource center organizes workshops for guardians and parent of children with special needs. Its workshops addresses concerns, such as potential benefits, legal considerations, transition planning, residential options, employment opportunities, recreational choices and family communications. The school also operates an individualized learning program that encourages students with academic problems to take advantage of free after-school tutoring. Additionally, the school s counseling department manages guidance program and coordinates tests and scholarship activities. It also acts as a college representative and helps in universities selection and planning. Located in Shawnee Mission, Kan., the school is a part of Shawnee Mission School District that serves more than 28,000 students. The district covers an area of over 72 square miles and operates more than 50 educational institutions.
