The Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility based in Glasgow, Ky. The company serves more than 20,000 members in seven counties throughout the south and central parts of Kentucky. As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, the company conducts business by adhering to the core values that cooperative members have come to rely on since 1938. Its power supplier, East Kentucky Power Cooperative, must comply with the Federal Clean Air Act and government-mandated reductions in power plant emissions. Since 1995, it has purchased and installed more than $200 million in equipment to meet new emission standards.
