Landmark Newspapers, headquartered in Shelbyville, Ky., operates a variety of news publications throughout the United States. The company has 51 paid newspapers in 12 states, 35 free shoppers, 18 printing plants, six free newspapers, six collegiate sports publications and 24 special publications such as real estate guides and homes magazines. LCNI is a division of Landmark Communications, a privately-held media company in Norfolk, Va., with interests in newspapers and special publications, TV broadcasting, cable programming, outdoor advertising and education. Landmark Community Newspapers traces its history to 1966, when eight small-town publishers pooled resources to build a printing plant in Shelbyville. The group was incorporated in 1968 as Newspapers, Inc. and was purchased by Landmark Communications in 1973.
