Franklin is a city in and the county seat of Simpson County, Kentucky, United States The population was 7,996 at the 2000 census.
Franklin was founded on November 2, 1820 on a 62-acre (250,000 m2) tract of land. This tract was purchased from William Hudspeth and was named for Benjamin Franklin. The post office was established on September 29, 1822, with Robert W. Simpson as postmaster.
