The Lake Charles Police Department is the principle law enforcement agency in the city of Lake Charles. It is responsible for providing police service to an area encompassing approximately 40 square miles and its 75,000 residents. The department is sub-divided into numerous divisions, including patrol, K-9, traffic and bicycle units. The chief of police oversees all operations of the LCPD. Its history of providing law enforcement in the Lake Charles area dates back to 1868. The department s main building along Enterprise Boulevard was built in December 1974. The Lake Charles Police Department has more than 150 sworn officers and support staff.
