The Retired Senior Volunteer Program enlists older adults and retirees to serve as volunteers in their communities. It involves seniors in volunteer opportunities that make use of their skills and lifelong experiences. Located in New Orleans, the program is operated by the New Orleans Council on Aging, which is a private, nonprofit corporation that provides social, recreational, educational, employment and nutritional services for people above 60 years. Its parent company offers health education and dental and nutrition counseling services for ambulatory elderly at senior centers and nutrition sites by means of mobile dental vans. The organization offers the SenioRx Program, which assist seniors with their Medicare and Medicaid prescription needs. In addition, the New Orleans Council on Aging offers the Senior Companions Program, which includes in-home assistance to the elderly and people with disabilities using trained volunteer companions who perform personal care, home management, advocacy, respite and other services.
