Shelby received a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She worked as a registered nurse in the intensive care nursery as well as a clinical nurse in the newborn critical care unit for over seven years. Shelby is an active member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, the Academy of Neonatal Nursing and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Sally Turnipseed received her bachelor's of science in nursing from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and her master's of science in nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University. Prior to joining the newborn nursery at Ochsner, Sally worked as a registered nurse for 13 years in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Ochsner Baptist.
