Industrial Products Supply (IPS) is a wiping cloth and janitorial supply company serving the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. Commercial Wiping Cloth was founded in 1947 by two brothers, Arnold and Fred White. They were originally located in in WashingtonDC, but soon moved to a small building in Bladensburg, Maryland. During this time, the business was exclusively cloth wipers (rags). These rags were manufactured on-site. Large amounts of clothing were brought in and had to be sorted into like grades (types of cloth - i.e. fleece, flannel, terry, etc.). The rag cutting operation was comprised of individuals seated at machines, removing buttons, snaps, zippers, etc., then cutting the various articles of clothing to "wiper-size" pieces. The cut rags were then boxed according to customer requests. To keep up with the changing times, Commercial Wiping added paper and non-woven wipers to their product line. With the success of this new line of wipers, material handling, packaging, chemicals, safety and janitorial supplies were also added to the line. In 1993, the corporate name was changed to better reflect the variety of products being offered. Commercial Wiping Cloth now trades under the name Industrial Products Supply. Today, Industrial Products Supply is located in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The company has been in this facility since 1983. At that time, IPS stopped the manual cutting operation and all wiping cloths were purchased "pre-cut". Arnold White died in 1975 and his brother Fred died in 1992. Over the years, the new owners, Linda Cafritz, Fred's daughter, Tony Gioia, an employee and manager since 1973, and Michele Ennis, an employee and manager since 1995, have continued in the spirit of the original founders: "Our goal is to earn your business and trust by providing quality products and competitive prices, while rendering the kind of service we feel you expect and deserve."
