The Franklin Schools use the Montessori approach to focus on children's developmental needs within a context of freedom and structure. Every child -- whether of toddler, preschool and kindergarten age -- is allowed to learn at their own pace, maintain a joy for learning and reach their maximum potential.

Since 1997, Franklin County Day School has grown from a one-room classroom to a multi-classroom building with 285 children. Now there are toddler and early childhood programs with full-day, part-time and three-day options as well as camps and mini camps.

An enrichment program is part of the curriculum. Drama classes introduce the children to a wide verity of literature, poetry, fables, fairy tales and classic stories. They develop self-confidence, leadership skills and body control while stimulating thought processes.

Art and music classes are used to blend instructional and creative process, encouraging all children to express themselves.

Spanish and Mandarin language classes are also part of Franklin's curriculum. These once-a-week classes introduce foreign languages to children.

Outdoor exploration is an important part of the Franklin education approach. The Beyond Walls Program allows children to explore natural gardening, animal habitats, weather conditions and the outdoors. The school grounds are a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat, which means the grounds provide the four basic habitat elements: food, water, cover and places of safety in which to raise the young.

The Franklin Schools are accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and licensed by the MSDE Office of Child Care.
