The Co-operative Central Reserve Fund and Share Insurance Fund were established in the early 1930s 1932 in response to the Great Depression. The Co-operative Central Reserve Fund acts as a “parent bank” – a centralized reserve and organizational nerve center – to its member banks. The purpose of the Share Insurance Fund (established two years later by the same member banks) is insuring deposits not otherwise covered by the FDIC. Their offices are located in the second floor of the Heritage on the Garden building.
