The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is a corporate and political body and a subdivision of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was founded in 1964 to finance and operate bus, subway, commuter rail and ferry systems in Boston. Its commuter rail system is a suburban rail network that shares its tracks with freight trains. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is locally known as The T, and its subway system is comprised of the Blue, Orange, Green, Red and a part of the Silver Line. Its boat system is comprised of two types of boat services, including inner-harbor ferries and commuter boats.
