Highland Park - Fort Hill in Roxbury, Massachusetts, is a historic neighborhood that played a significant role during the Siege of Boston in the Revolutionary War. The area was home to several thousand Continental soldiers who built a series of forts to guard Boston Neck, the only land route between Boston and Roxbury.
The High Fort, located on the highest point in Roxbury, provided the colonists with a strategic vantage point to observe the British army. Although the fort no longer exists, the space is now occupied by the Cochituate Standpipe, also known as Fort Hill Tower, which was built in 1869 and served as a water tower for Roxbury's water system. The Dillaway-Thomas House, General John Thomas's headquarters during the Siege of Boston, is also located in Fort Hill.
