Like libraries everywhere, Westwood's has evolved to become much more than a mere repository of printed books. Librarians now are experts at data retrieval online and the town's collection has evolved to include audio and video materials and access to online resources. Additionally, the town has many programs to promote literacy among youth and to encourage reading in the adult population. The library is part of the Minuteman system, which provides borrowing privileges from many towns throughout the state — all codified and searchable online, where requests to borrow materials may also be made.
