The Police Department is a part of the Michigan State University and serves students by providing a security and safety services. It has more than 60 police officers certified by the state of Michigan, and handles police and criminal matters on university properties. It has several divisions that include uniform, operations, records maintenance and technology divisions. Its detective bureau is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations on criminal complaints. It also has computer forensics and crime scene investigators. The department provides specialized services, such as collecting, documenting and preserving evidence at crime scenes. It additionally offers security against homicides, deaths, rapes, stabbings drive-by shootings, explosive devices, home invasions, larcenies from vehicles and vehicle accidents.
