Founded in 1989, Barkell Elementary School serves more than 450 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. It academic curriculum includes language arts, math, science and social studies. Additionally, the school offers a range of activities, such as arts, music, drama, athletics and social events. It offers Rainbow Kids, which is an after-school care program for students of ages three to 12. Additionally, the school conducts classes in computer applications, English, handwriting, and health and physical education. The school has a fully equipped computer laboratory, multimedia center, automated library and science laboratory. Barkell Elementary School also offers breakfast and lunch on a regular basis. The school is located in Hancock, Mich., and is a part of Hancock Public Schools.
