The Gratiot County Sheriff's Office, established in 1855, is a full-service law enforcement agency. It enforces and investigates criminal offenses, monitors traffic violations, investigates motor vehicle crashes, and provides emergency and nonemergency assistance to citizens. It handles issues in relation to domestic assault, murder, transportation of prisoners and bailiffs. The Gratiot County Sheriff's Office maintains marine and road patrol, handicap enforcement, K-9 and drug enforcement units. The office supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior.
