The Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA), the Area Agency on Aging for Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties was founded in 1974 as a Consortium of the three counties and the cities of Lansing and East Lansing. The Governing Board is comprised of representatives from those governmental bodies. TCOA's mission is to promote and preserve the independence and dignity of the aging population. We help older adults (primarily age 60 and over) and their families and caregivers access programs and benefits, improve their health, live independently, and remain active in their communities. TCOA embraces a Person Centered Philosophy that focuses on how a person wants to live their life by honoring their preferences. TCOA connects people who need help with resources, services and information, including: o Counseling on subjects such as housing, finances and long term care options. o Support for Caregivers. o Case Coordination for those who can benefit from limited support. o Crisis Services for the Elderly in response to non-medical emergencies such as utility shut off notices and prescription drug issues. o Housing Assistance helps individuals 60 and over and persons with disabilities transitioning to the community to find suitable housing. o Project Choices/MI Choice offers an alternative to nursing home care by providing services in their home or the setting of their choice. o Information and Assistance staff provide information on topics related to older adults and persons with disabilities, including Social Security, health insurance, in-home services and housing information. o Evidence-based health and wellness programs such as Matter of Balance Falls Prevention, Diabetes PATH, Chronic Pain Path, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and Creating Confident Caregivers. o AARP Tax Counseling for the Elderly offers tax preparation assistance geared towards but not limited to individuals 60 and over with low to middle income. o Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program s counselors help individuals understand Medicare and Medicaid. o Meals on Wheels provides a hot, well-balanced meal generally delivered daily by volunteers. Senior Dining sites provide hot, well balanced meals and other activities at over 20 sites throughout the Tri-County area.
