The Carver County Jail, opened in 1995, is a direct supervision facility with an approved capacity of more than 110 beds. The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) licenses the facility and inspects it annually. The jail also maintains a six-bed juvenile detention center. The Carver County Jail provides detention facilities to sentenced, pretrial, awaiting bail or arraignment as directed by laws for either a felony or a gross misdemeanor. It works to receive and safely keep the people lawfully committed and not release any person unless discharged in accordance with the law. The jail employs more than 40 staff members that include nurse, visiting clerk and correctional officers. Located in Chaska, Minn., it also has a team of over 50 community volunteers and civilians who offer services in the areas of religious studies, substance abuse counseling and other valuable inmate programming.
