Anna Marie's Alliance, also known as the Central Minnesota Task Force on Battered Women, is a private nonprofit corporation that provides 24-hour emergency shelter and advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse. The agency also works with the community on systems change and violence prevention. Since 1979, Anna Marie's has sheltered more than 11,000 battered women and their children. Its community education department operates a more than 30-member speaker's bureau that provides presentations and professional training to civic organizations, schools and universities, religious groups, businesses and other human service agencies. The department also coordinates awareness activities and produces informational materials, including the agency s newsletter, Shelterline. Its criminal justice intervention department contacts victims of domestic abuse after an arrest to inform them of their rights and to make sure the criminal justice system holds the abuser accountable. The agency provides temporary housing in a supportive environment while women begin to stabilize their lives and gain skills to be self-sufficient. Headquartered in St. Cloud, Minn., Anna Marie's Alliance meets the accountability standards of the Charities Review Council.
