Founded in 1979, the Missouri Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads and highways. It operates and manages more than 32,000 miles of highway throughout Missouri. The department cooperates and coordinates various programs for the development and improvement of airports, rail facilities, ports and transit systems.
