Headquartered in Jefferson City, Mo., the Missouri State Water Patrol is a statewide law enforcement agency specializing in the regulation of waterways and boating safety. Founded in 1974, the board s administrative services commander is responsible for the supervision of several administrative services. Its field services commander is responsible for the supervision of all field activities and operations. The Missouri State Water Patrol administers a safe boating course for students in the elementary and secondary school systems. The board is also responsible for conducting boat and motor verifications, as well as issuing permits for regattas, races and organized fishing events. Additionally, the Missouri State Water Patrol responds to citizen complaints and investigates boating and water-related accidents.
