A native of Kansas City, Dr. Svetlecic received her undergraduate degree in biology and medical degrees from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Additionally, she completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UMKC. During her residency and fellowship, she was awarded first place twice in UMKC's research competition. She is the recipient of three awards from the American College of Chest Physicians for her work on complications from lung transplants.
