Hettinger (pronunciation: /hɛtɪŋɡər/ het-ing-gər) is a city in Adams County, North Dakota in the United States. It is the county seat of Adams County. The population was 1,226 at the 2010 census.
Hettinger was founded in 1907 along the Milwaukee Road's transcontinental rail line known as the Pacific Extension. The city and its surrounding township were named by popular demand in recognition of Hettinger County, from which Adams County was created in 1907.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.2 km²).0.8 square miles (2.2 km²) of it is land and 1.18% is water.
