The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is a 127 acre property overseen by the Morris County Park Commission. It centers around a palatial home dating back to 1891, the onetime summer residence of a wealthy New York couple. Their daughter, Matilda Frelinghuysen, a gardening enthusiast, bequeathed the property to Morris County to be used as an "arboretum." According to the Morris County Park Commision, an arboretum is, "A collection of woody trees and shrubs cultivated and labeled for educational and scientific purposes."

The Arboretum has become a center for all things horticultural in Morris County. Events are held throughout the year, ranging from classes to special tours and programs. No matter the level of your interest in horticulture, the Frelinghuysen Arboretum is still a beautiful place to walk, hike or simply loll on a blanket on the great lawn. Admission is free. Fees are charged for some special events and programs.
