In 1854, Friedrich W. Honerkamp immigrated to America with his wife, Mary. In 1856, she gave birth to a son. Frank W. Honerkamp grew to work with his father in the family business that exported cattle to South America and imported lumber and veneer to the United States. With the growth of furniture and woodworking trades in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, N.Y., the company shifted its attention solely to lumber and veneer. F.W. Honerkamp Co. was officially incorporated in 1871. In 2001 the company acquired a laminate distributor, Edgar Sabbeth Plywood, that brought a range of new products to the company, such as Wilsonart laminate, Blum hardware and BHK drawer sides. Products include plywood panels, prefinished plywood, laminate, melamine, flakeboard, fiberboard, dynaslides, flooring and other specialty products. F.W. Honerkamp Co. services its customer base with goods from two full-service locations in the Bronx and Central Islip, N.Y.
