In the early 1930s, Polish-American farmers came together in Port Jefferson and created a club to celebrate and foster Polish culture and traditions. Polish girls and boys were encouraged to attend dances to hopefully get together and fall in love. Today, all ethnic groups are encouraged to join the club. The Polish-American Independent Club holds annual events like its big clambake. The club also raises money and donates to local nonprofits. Members enjoy a banquet hall, a dance floor, a bar with large-screen televisions, a communal vegetable garden and horseshoe pits.
