The American Physical Society was founded in 1899 with the objective of advancement and distribution of the knowledge of physics. The organization is active in public and governmental affairs and in the international physics community. In addition, the society offers a variety of programs in education, public outreach and media relations. The American Physical Society operates through more than 14 divisions and nine topical groups covering all areas of physics research. It also has six forums representing needs of its over 46,000 members and eight sections organized by geographical region. It also offers a wide range of educational programs, such as High School Physics Teachers Days, Physics to Go, Physics in Your Future and Century of Physics Timeline program.
