Ames Goldsmith Corporation processes more than 50 million ounces of silver each year. The company is an ISO 9002 certified company. Merritt Ames, a Vermont preacher, started the Ames Chemical Company in 1860. Ames loved the new art of photography, and he augmented his business by refining silver from scrap photographic plates. As the company grew, it diversified into producing silver nitrate, oxide powders and flakes. Ames Goldsmith also refines ethylene oxide silver catalyst and other selected silver-bearing scrap. Ames Goldsmith Corporation is located in Glens Falls, N.Y. The company is privately owned and employs approximately 50 people.
