Matthew D. Nguyen, M.D.

Dr. Shi is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Shi is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and skilled in general ophthalmology. She specializes in glaucoma evaluation and treatment, including medical management, laser, and glaucoma surgery. She performs cataract surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.Dr. Shi completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard University and her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles, CA, one of the highest-ranked programs in the nation. She remained there to continue her fellowship in Glaucoma. She is involved in clinical research and authored several peer-reviewed journal articles.Dr. Shi is currently accepting new patients. Dr. Kimberly Sippel attended Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating with honors in Biochemical Sciences. She received her medical degree with the Alpha Omega Alpha honor distinction from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. Following two years of training in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Sippel completed ophthalmology residency training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. She then completed the fellowship program in Cornea and External Disease at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and is a recipient of both a Heed Foundation fellowship, as well as the American Ophthalmological Society Knapp Foundation fellowship award. Dr. Sippel also pursued several years of vision-related laboratory investigation as a Research Fellow at both the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sippel is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sippel is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Weill Cornell Medicine and the NewYork Presbyterian Hospital. Prior to joining the Weill Cornell faculty, Dr. Sippel was with Cornea Consultants of Boston/ Laser Eye Consultants of Boston and had an active teaching role at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. Her interests include laser vision correction surgery, corneal transplantation and cataract surgery, corneal disease and dry eye, and conjunctival tumors.Kimberly C. Pratik Patel, OD is an optometrist at Weill Cornell Medicine Ophthalmology. His practice interests include contact lenses and ocular disease. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, he received his Doctorate in Optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry. During optometry school, Dr. Patel was member of the Beta Sigma Honors Society, Gold Key Honors Society, and was awarded Billie M. Lyons Memorial Award for distinguished service to the college community. Dr. Patel then completed a Contact Lens and Ocular Disease residency at The Ohio State University Havener Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology where he gained extensive training in fitting specialty contact lenses with an emphasis on scleral lenses for complex corneal and ocular surface diseases. In addition, he gained clinical experience in several ophthalmology sub-specialties such as anterior segment, glaucoma, retina, and neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Patel has presented posters and spoken at several meetings and conferences.Dr. Patel has been interested and dedicated to community service and volunteering during his time in college and optometry school. He was heavily involved with the Lions Club where he helped organized vision screenings in the local community. In addition, Dr. Patel participated in a service trip to Nicaragua with the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH) organization providing free eye exams and glasses to various communities.Dr. Patel is currently accepting new patients. He sees comprehensive eye exams, contact lens exams, refractive surgery co-management, cataract co-management, anterior segment pathology, and monitors glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. In addition, he specializes in complex contact lens fittings for various ocular conditions including: keratoconus, post-corneal transplant, severe dry eye, post-surgical corneal ectasia, corneal dystrophies, ocular surface disease, ocular trauma, irregular astigmatism, presbyopia, aphakia, and high refractive error.
