Clara H. Carlson Elementary School, located in Elmont, N.Y., is named after a former principal who served the community for many years. Founded in 1930, it enrolls more than 800 students and offers classes in grades kindergarten through six. Its educational program challenges all students to discover their talents, develop their abilities and achieve their full potential. Subjects include the basics, English, math, social studies and science, and other subjects, such as speech, debate, art, science lab, music, computers, technology and video production. A guidance counselor assists students and families with social and emotional issues that impact learning. The school provides a wide range of extracurricular activities, including various sports, such as softball, basketball and volleyball.
