Established in 1966, Shoals Marine Laboratory is a research facility that serves high school, undergraduate and graduate students. It offers a range of internship programs in the areas of sustainable engineering, marine science, environmental studies and seabird conservation. Shoals Marine Laboratory conducts studies related to data collection methodologies, trash control and alternative energy sources. Its faculty members and instructors are affiliated with some of the leading universities in the United States that include the University of Groningen, Cornell University, West Chester University, University of Arizona and Millersville University. Shoals Marine Laboratory offers several academic credit courses in the areas of marine vertebrates, comparative embryology and life history strategies, and marine ecology and phylogenomics.
