St. Mary's School for the Deaf is an independent, day and residential school providing specialized services to deaf and communication and physically challenged students of all ages. Located in Buffalo, N.Y., it comprises elementary and secondary divisions. It provides deaf infant and preschool programs at the elementary level. The elementary curriculum includes language development and special needs achievement programs. Its secondary department consists of middle and high schools for students in grades nine through 12. It offers college preparatory and life skills programs, occupational training and classes for the hearing impaired. It provides education in English, social studies, science, math, computers, art, careers, technology, speech and language therapy, physical education, counseling and American Sign Language. It also provides classes in history, drama, electronic publishing, buildings maintenance, culinary arts, chemistry and journalism. Its library provides various electronic and printed materials. It also offers extracurricular activities, including dances, chess, bowling, swimming, roller skating and drama. Additionally, it provides occupational and physical therapies, cochlear implants and various after school services.
