Bradley Harris Goldberg, MD

Bradley Goldberg, MD, is an attending physician and program director of the hematology/oncology fellowship program at R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center. He specializes in treating patients with leukemia as well as other malignant hematologic disorders. He's also an assistant professor of medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and is a course director for the hematology course for the first-year medical students. After graduating from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, Dr. Goldberg did both his residency and fellowship at Zucker School of Medicine and became an attending physician in 2019. He chose medical hematology/oncology as a specialty in part because he watched his mother navigate through the diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a hematologic cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow. This stoked his drive to help patients and their families navigate similar hardships, with the goal of curing them in many cases. The fast pace of change in this specialty is also something that he finds particularly compelling. Every couple of months, there's a new discovery or promising innovation for treatment, and that's exciting,' he says. The best aspect, however, is in the physician-patient relationship. I feel like I'm part of someone's family when I'm caring for them. My approach is that I want patients to feel like I'm their advocate; I will always be searching for the best possible option for their care.Dr. Goldberg has been the principal investigator on a number of clinical trials, with a research focus specifically in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). He also participates in peer-reviewed research and serves on the leukemia committee with the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology. In his role as fellowship program director he is responsible for ensuring the quality of training and education for the next generation of hematologist/oncologists. I have found it extremely rewarding to be able to contribute to the field in ways that will last for many years in the future. Through all of that, though, my top priority remains to advocate for my patients and make sure that they are receiving treatment that is at some points advancing the standard of care, and at the same time make them feel that I am somebody they can talk to.
