South Plainfield is a Borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough population was 23,385.
South Plainfield was incorporated by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 10, 1926, from portions of Piscataway Township, based on the results of a referendum passed on April 6, 1926.
South Plainfield is located at 40°34′51″N 74°24′50″W / 40.580703°N 74.414015°W / 40.580703; -74.414015 (40.580703, -74.414015). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.4 square miles (21.7 km2), of which, 8.4 square miles (21.7 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2) of it (0.48%) is water. South Plainfield is bordered by Piscataway on the south and west, Edison on the east, and Plainfield on the north.
