Piedmont Triad International Airport not only services Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem, but also the area of North Carolina region known as the Piedmont Triad Region. Piedmont opened in 1927 as a stop on an airmail route from New York to New Orleans. In 1930 the airport began servicing commercial flights to Washington D.C. In 1987 Piedmont Triad Airport received the name it is known by today.

It is the third-busiest airport in the state with an average of 280 flights every day. GSO Airport has two concourses consisting of 30 gates. There are six airlines flying to and from the airport serving several domestic and international destinations. Atlanta, Charlotte and Philadelphia are the airports most popular destinations for travelers.

GSO Airport offers many options for ground transportation including busses, vans, carpools and taxis. AmTrak and Greyhound also transport passengers to and from the airport. Parking is available on the multi-level garage that holds 2,000 vehicles. There are also long-term, uncovered parking spots with pro-rated pricing.

GSO has about a dozen dining and retail options in the concourses ranging from Pizza Hut to the PGA Tour shop. If staying near the airport there are over 15 hotel options to choose from including the Fairfield Inn Airport, the Hyatt Place and La Quinta Inn & Suites.
