Located in Chapel Hill, N.C., and established in 2001, School of Government works to improve the lives of citizens by engaging in practical scholarship programs. The core components of the school are the Institute of Government, established in 1931 to provide educational, advisory and research support for North Carolina's state and local governments. It also offers a two-year Master of Public Administration program that prepares graduates for leadership careers in public service. Additionally, the school sponsors centers focused on information technology, environmental finance and civic education for youth. The school s library collection and research services provide access to materials on topics, including public law, public administration, management and government. Its library contains more than 15,500 bound volumes, over 850 periodical subscriptions and nearly 20,000 pamphlets. The School of Government also publishes books, manuals, monographs and research reports for North Carolina public officials and other citizens.
