Gross Veneer Sales is a family business, and the Gross family has been in the wood business since the mid-1800's. Back then, the first Grosses in this country were in the log and lumber business in Pennsylvania and western New York. That tradition continued in the next generation with Morrison and Gross Lumber Co in Elkins, West Virginia, which operated from the 1920's to the 1950's. Our company was started in the late 1950's when Robert A. Gross left Amos-Thompson Veneer Co, where he had sold lumber and sliced veneer, to form a new sales company. Gross Veneer Sales primarily represented domestic veneer mills, selling flitchstock veneer in the eastern U.S. and Canada, but focusing on the furniture industry in North Carolina and Virginia. In addition to representing American mills, we also started importing exotic and burl veneers, mostly from France. In an effort to diversify our product line, we started offering imported rotary-cut veneer in the late 1960's, primarily the species Okoume from West Africa. Rotary-cut veneers, and the veneercore platforms made from them, have grown to be our largest volume product, which we offer in a variety of thicknesses, sizes and species. Our experience and expertise grow year by year. We look forward to putting them to work for your company.
