Established in 1894, Rocky Mount Fire Department is a public service agency headquartered in Rocky Mount, N.C. It provides bucket brigades, more than 80-foot elevating platforms, well water and various fire extinguishing chemicals. It has volunteers and salaried firefighters, horse-drawn 1,000-gallons-per-minute steam engines, and more than 10 engines and three aerial trucks capable of pumping water over 9,500-gallons-per-minute. The fire department has a staff of more than 125 professionals who are involved with training, conducting inspections, and various programs and classes in addition to fighting fire. It also has a support services division that develops, implements, and coordinates programs and activities to ensure that personnel are equipped with the skills, knowledge and training to safely accomplish the mission of the fire department.
