Irwin Avenue Open Elementary School is one of the oldest magnet-choice programs and a part of North Carolina A+ schools program in Charlotte, N.C. The school teaches art and technology to more than 450 students in kindergarten through grade five. In addition to its core subjects, it provides special education programs for behaviorally and emotionally handicapped children, as well English as a Second Language program. The school has corporate partnerships with the Bank of America, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation Department, First Union, Associated Textiles and the Johnson C. Smith Students. Founded in 1973, Irwin Avenue Open Elementary School is affiliated with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and is located in Charlotte, N.C.
