John Carroll, the principal of Cornerstone, formed John Carroll and Associates in 1992. John had sizeable blocks of business with several carriers including Employer's Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Ohio, ChoiceCare and Community Mutual Blue Cross Blue Shield.Carroll and Associates eventually changed its name to Cornerstone and committed itself entirely to wholesale brokerage in Greater Cincinnati. GA Agreements were put into place for several carriers and software was developed to facilitate the generation of proposals, tracking and reporting of all case activity as well as the processing of commissions.Southern Ohio Benefits Agency ( SOBA ) was created in 1994 to serve as a General Agent for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Ohio, now known as Medical Mutual of Ohio. In April of 2000 the SOBA Operations were merged with Cornerstone. SOBA exists today still as a full service brokerage agency for MMO.Today Cornerstone employs over 60 full time benefit specialists and has become one of the largest wholesalers of group insurance in the country. Cornerstone has a Dayton office and has purchased Southeastern Agency in Athens, Ohio and the Carter Agency in Lima, Ohio. The company enjoys an excellent reputation in the broker, carrier and client communities. Our core objectives include driving down the carrier operational costs as well as increasing carrier markets. With the consolidation that is taking place with group insurance carriers, only the largest wholesale brokers with the very best technology operating cost efficient value added services to the carriers would thrive.
