Established in 1903, the Norwood Police Department is a law enforcement agency that preserves peace and detects and prevents crime. It employs a staff of more than 20 full-time, trained sworn officers. The department maintains a K-9 unit that handles cases related to drug intervention, tracking, and searches for persons and evidence. The Norwood Police Department supports the Drug Abuse Reduction Task Force (DART). The department also operates training and patrol divisions and offers various community services. The Norwood Police Department operates a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team that specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations.
