St. John's is a moderate-sized church small enough to be friendly and personable, but large enough to offer a variety of programs and activities. This is affirmed by our 2003 congregation survey, which reveals the top three reasons people have chosen to become members of St. John's: ( 1 ) friendly family environment ; ( 2 ) spiritual fulfillment ; and ( 3 ) a variety of opportunities to worship and serve. St. John's began meeting in 1805 as The Society of St. John's Meeting House and organized formally in 1819 as St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. ( You can read more about our history on our history page. ) St. John's is part of the ELCA ( Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ). Although we are the oldest church in Miamisburg, we have kept up with the times. We moved to our new sanctuary in 1995 and began offering a contemporary service in addition to our traditional service ( see below for details ). We have also embraced the information age with our new updated web site, and we have an online discussion group. We continue to change and evolve with the times, and we welcome and encourage new ideas for worship and service. St. John's offers many opportunities for service, fellowship, and learning. We have an active Sunday School program for children pre-K and up, and we provide three different classes for adults. We also have an active youth ministry program for both Junior and Senior High. Members of the congregation are involved in a variety of social ministry programs including Miamisburg Helping Hands, donating school supplies in the fall, and adopting families at Christmas time, just to name a few. An interpreter for the hearing impaired is available during our late worship service. Contact the Pastor or the church office at 937 ) 866-3780 for more information.
