Established in 1962 as a political subdivision of the State of Ohio, Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority is a public agency, partly funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, providing subsidized housing facilities for eligible citizens of Wayne County. Primarily catering to the low and moderate income families, the agency has 224 units of housing in eight different projects, 120 units of which are designated for the elderly and/or disabled people. Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority owns and manages numerous properties, some of which include Madison Heights, Townview Terrace, Northgate Apartments, Scattered Sites Rehab Homes and Rittman Towne Manor. In addition, other community services provided comprise Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program for meeting housing needs, special use housing and community housing improvement programs.
