Basciani Mushroom Farms, located in Avondale, Pa., is a family-owned, one of the few fourth-generation mushroom farmers in the country. It grows all sizes of white mushrooms and exotics, as well as other varieties of mushrooms. The mushrooms are packed for national retail grocery store chains, as well as for food service distributors. The company has processing and storage facilities in Chicago and Minneapolis, and it ships more than a million pounds of mushrooms every week. In 1970, the company along with other investors bought the Mushroom Canning Company. This was done by Basciani Mushroom Farms to control an outlet for a secondary product.
