The building houses the Tredyffrin Township police department as well as the township manager, engineer (building permits), and other government offices. The township Board of Supervisors meets in the main meeting room as do township boards and authorities. The township is governed by a board of supervisors, with daily operations managed by a professional town manager.

Tredyffrin Township dates back to 1682 when a group of Welsh Quakers purchased 40,000 acres from William Penn to establish a small farming community. By 1707, the community's population was large enough to be incorporated as a township. The township's population is approximately 29,000 as of the 2010 U.S. Census.
